Prevalencia de hipoacusia neurosensorial en pacientes con hipertensión arterial sistémica mayores de sesenta años en el servicio de otorrinolaringología del Hospital Teodoro Maldonado Carbo entre los meses de agosto y diciembre del año 2017.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the association that exists between the worsening of the presbycusis and the arterial systemic hypertension. It is a retrospective study for which was considered an estimated sample of 75 elderly individuals age over 60 years old who undertwent an audiological evaluation (pure tone audiometry), both genders were tested at different frequencies, from 500Hz up to 8000 Hz. The audiological evaluation was done in the otorhinolaryngology area. All the individuals were diagnosed of arterial systemic hypertension in the cardiology department of the Hospital Teodoro Maldonado Carbo del Instituto Ecuatoriano de Seguridad Social. An association between the arterial systemic hypertension and the hearing loss in the elderly (60 years old) creates the need to established strategies between the specialities of cardiology and otorhinolaryngology. Including pure tone audiometry as part of the initial evaluation of individual with arterial systemic hypertension. The purpose is to stablished and early diagnosed to identify the need of hearing aids and to avoid the functional and psychosocial consequences caused by hypoacusis.
