Efectividad de agente desensibilizante en aclaramiento dental en consultorio.

Abstract

Introduction: Tooth whitening is a dental treatment that improves the esthetic dental appearance; but it presents a negative effect, dental sensitivity, which can manifest itself with great intensity, even stopping the procedure. Therefore, the use of desensitizing agents that contain certain components that would help to reduce it has been implemented. Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of the desensitizing agent in dental bleaching in the dental office. Materials and methods: Thirty patients were selected who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria, divided into two groups. Group A: Use of desensitizer for 10 minutes and in-office rinsing; Group B: In-office rinsing only. The participants stated whether there was absence or presence of pain or discomfort during the procedure, and at the end of the tooth whitening procedure, sensitivity was recorded by the VAS scale; and acceptance of the final color of the teeth by the 5-point hedonic scale. Results: Group A: lower presence of sensitivity during and after whitening. Group B: higher percentage. Likewise, patients rated with a ponderation of 4 and 5 points with the result of the final color, indicating acceptance and conformity with the treatment. Conclusion: The use of the desensitizing agent does not eradicate dental sensitivity in its totality, but it does help to reduce its presence during and after the procedure; in spite of this, there was conformity with the final result.
