Percepciones de los adultos mayores que viven en Viche – Esmeraldas, sobre la situación de inseguridad ciudadana del país, periodo 2024.

Abstract

The objective of this degree work is to describe the perceptions of citizen insecurity that older adults in the Viche community in Esmeraldas have for the period 2024. This in order to understand how it affects their daily lives. Knowing the manifestations, the effects of these acts of violence, and the coping strategies they have applied in order to protect themselves. For this, it will be supported by a qualitative approach methodology, a phenomenological method, as well as a descriptive level and a type of basic research. The sample used was 10 older adults, to whom an-interview was applied and subsequently analyzed through axial coding and data triangulation. From this it was possible to specify that older adults are a vulnerable social group, who have been direct victims of these acts of insecurity, as well as the fact of living with the knowledge that their families, friends and neighbors are also victims of this insecurity. They live in fear, especially in their place of residence, Viche, which is known for its danger in the province of Esmeraldas. In order to protect themselves, they have chosen to work in their neighborhood, forming committees, or establishing security measures in their homes, or simply choosing not to leave their homes.
