Prevalencia de endometriosis en pacientes atendidas en consulta externa de Ginecología en el Hospital General Monte Sinaí durante el 2023.

Abstract

Introduction: Endometriosis is a chronic and inflammatory disease that affects 10% of women of reproductive age, characterized by the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterus. Objective: To identify the prevalence of endometriosis in patients seen in the outpatient gynecology department of the Hospital General Monte Sinai during 2023. Methodology: This research had a descriptive, observational, cross-sectional level, in which the medical records of patients diagnosed with endometriosis were analyzed and the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Results: The sample included 109 patients with endometriosis diagnosed in 2023. The most affected age group was 18 to 28 years (47.7%), with a predominance of mixed race (78.9%). The most frequent symptom was chronic pelvic pain (99.1%), followed by dysmenorrhea (76.1%) and dyspareunia (70.6%). According to the ASRM scale, mild grade was the most common (45%), and the most frequent location of the endometrioma was in the ovaries (58.7%), followed by the peritoneum (25.7%). Conclusion: Endometriosis predominated in young mixed-race women, manifesting mainly with chronic pelvic pain, mostly in mild forms and with endometriomas located in the ovaries.
