Análisis de la tenencia responsable de Canis lupus familiaris en dos sectores del cantón Puebloviejo de la prov. de Los Ríos.

Abstract

This research focused on establishing a medical registry and control to improve responsible ownership and prevent health problems in both animals and humans, highlighting the importance of their role as active and emotional members of our families. This work was developed following a structured methodological approach, selecting a representative sample of the population, focusing on the geographic areas of the 24 de Mayo and Justino Cornejo sectors of the San Francisco de Puebloviejo parish. The population used consisted of dog owners residing in the selected areas, the sample was geographically delimited and focused on the main streets, where data collection was carried out through face-to-face surveys in homes. Microsoft Excel was used for statistical analysis. The data collected were tabulated and descriptive statistics were applied to obtain percentages and graphs that reflected the level of knowledge of the owners about animal ownership. The results revealed significant disparities in knowledge and practices, highlighting low sterilization together with the lack of vaccination represented only 5.56 %, while the use of leashes represented only 8.59 %. These results underscore the need to promote animal welfare and public health education. The research concluded that the level of education of the owners has a significant impact on the quality of responsible dog ownership. Despite this, gaps were identified in key areas such as nutrition and veterinary care, highlighting the need to implement educational programs to improve animal welfare across the population.
