Evaluación de la capacidad funcional en pacientes con enfermedad renal crónica sometidos a hemodiálisis.

Abstract

kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive disease that impairs the physical and functional capacity of those who suffer from it, especially in patients undergoing hemodialysis, who present loss of muscle strength, sedentary lifestyle and associated comorbidities. Objective: To determine the functional capacity of patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis in Guayaquil, year 2025. Materials and methods: A descriptive, observational, and cross-sectional study was conducted with 81 patients treated at FREIAT and SERDIDYV S.A. The TGlittre-ADL test was applied along with the registration of clinical and sociodemographic variables. Results: 56% of the patients were men, the majority being over 45 years of age, with a predominance of overweight and obesity (65%) and a high rate of sedentary lifestyle (70%). The TGlittre-ADL test revealed that 56% presented slightly decreased functional capacity, 15% had reduced capacity, and another 15% were unable to complete the circuit, demonstrating severely compromised functionality. A significant association was found between physical activity level, comorbidities, and functional capacity (p<0.05). Conclusion: The majority of patients showed some degree of functional restriction, highlighting the need to implement physical therapy programs focused on improving mobility, strength, and endurance, in order to preserve autonomy and quality of life.
