Evaluación del estado funcional y la percepción del dolor en niños en tratamiento oncológico en la Fundación Fuerza Dorian.

Abstract

Pediatric cancer constitutes a public health crisis that deteriorates the physical, emotional, and social well-being of the child, consequently causing significant adverse effects on the functionality and pain perception of the patient. Objective: To determine the functional status and pain perception in children undergoing cancer treatment. Methodology: This is a quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study including 69 participants from the Fuerza Dorian Foundation. It was evaluated using the Daniels Scale, PBS, TUG, EVA, PedsQL and FACIT. Results: 55,07% were female, while 44,93% were male. The predominant age ranges are 4 to 7 and 8 to 12 years old (36,23%), and the most common diagnosis was Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (33%). The Daniels Scale showed a predominant level 3 in the neck (47,83%) and lower limbs (49,28%) with complete movement against gravity and level 4 in the upper limbs (47,83%). On the PBS Scale (67,14%) scored in the range of 21 to 45 points of acceptable balance, in contrast to the TUG test, which ranged from 10,01 to 20 seconds (60%) indicating greater functional limitations. The PedsQL Quality of Life Scale was in the range of 50 to 74 points (64,29%), the EVA Scale was classified as mild to moderate pain from 3 to 1 (54,29%), and the FACIT Fatigue Scale was from 0 to 20 (50%). Conclusion: Variations in functional capacity levels in pediatric patients undergoing cancer treatment reflect the importance of physical therapy care focused on increasing autonomy and well-being.
