Abstract

This study analyzes the role of social workers in interventions with families of children with disabilities within a sports institution in Guayaquil. It begins by recognizing disability as a condition that affects not only the individual but also their family environment, generating emotional, structural, and social changes. In this context, sports emerge as a key space for inclusion, holistic development, and the reduction of social barriers. The research reviews theoretical and empirical background that demonstrates the importance of professional support in these processes, highlighting the need for comprehensive interventions that include the family, the community, and institutions. The social worker fulfills multiple functions, acting as a mediator, guide, resource manager, and rights advocate, promoting the autonomy and quality of life of children and their families. From a systemic approach and the social model of disability, the study proposes that interventions must consider all of the child's environments, including the sports environment. Finally, the study seeks to understand how this professional role is configured, identifying its strategies, challenges, and contributions to building inclusive spaces that foster well-being and social integration.
