Conocimiento del personal de enfermería sobre la aplicación de la normativa sanitaria ESAMYN en el Hospital General del Norte de Guayaquil Los Ceibos.

Abstract

The Mother- and Baby-Friendly Healthcare Facility program is a health policy and initiative aimed at preventing maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality through timely care for pregnant women, humanized childbirth, and support, protection, and promotion of breastfeeding. Objective: To determine the level of knowledge among nursing staff regarding the ESAMYN health policy and its comprehensive application to mothers and newborns attending the Los Ceibos General Hospital in northern Guayaquil. Methodology: Descriptive, quantitative, prospective, cross-sectional. Sample: 129. Technique: Survey and direct observation. Instrument: Questionnaire and direct observation guide. Results: Ages 33–37 (45%), female (72.1%), 60.4% held a bachelor’s or master’s degree, and 46.5% had two years of work experience. A high degree of applicability was maintained by 79.07% of the staff. Knowledge of the general component: 51.2% had moderate knowledge regarding the regulatory framework. Knowledge of the prenatal component: 49.6% regarding counseling, screenings, and STD treatment. Knowledge of the labor/postpartum component: 53.5% had moderate knowledge regarding the prevention of unnecessary invasive procedures, and 48.1% had moderate knowledge regarding neonatal practices promoting full contact between the newborn and the mother, father, or family member. Regarding breastfeeding, 45.7% had moderate knowledge of support for initiation and maintenance, and 50.4% had moderate knowledge regarding the policy of not offering substitutes unless medically indicated. Knowledge level regarding regulations: 92.25% at a moderate level. It is concluded that the nursing staff demonstrated a predominantly moderate level of knowledge regarding ESAMyN overall.
