Cumplimiento en el manejo de cortopunzantes por el personal de enfermería en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos de un hospital de especialidades de la ciudad de Guayaquil en el periodo de octubre 2017 a enero 2018.

Abstract

The improper handling of sharp materials causes physical damage such as wounds, skin or eye conditions and serious infections, therefore the general objective was to determine compliance in the handling of sharps by nurses in the area of intensive care units , type of descriptive, quantitative and quantitative, cross-sectional, prospective study; whose population consisted of 38 Licensed and 28 Nursing Assistants working in ICU A, B and C, the instrument used was a questionnaire and a direct observation matrix and the technique was through the survey and observation, the The results obtained were that 70% of the nursing staff are women and 30% are men, 44% had between 1 to 5 years working, 59% indicated that there is a protocol, 38% said that sometimes they receive training while 12% indicated that never; On the other hand, in the direct observation matrix it was evidenced that 56% performed the procedures that involve the use of sharps with the results obtained, it is concluded that the hospital of specialties under study has a manual that details the procedures to be performed, but not a protocol previously established and approved specifically for the handling of sharps, in addition the personnel does not know about it because it is not socialized periodically and nor is training frequently given regarding this topic.
