Resumen : Dental traumas are lesions that are formed in the tooth, tissue, bone and other supporting tissues. This can occur at any age and is considered one of the most unpleasant experiences for both kids and parents. The great majority of these cases occur during childhood causing aesthetic, functional, and psychological alterations. This case study was done with the objective of knowing the prevalence of dental trauma and its etiology. Materials and methods: This research paper has an analytical and descriptive approach. The sample consisted of 90 pediatric patients that were treated at the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic of the UCSG. In addition a survey was completed by each child’s representative in which various variables were observed like the patient’s age, the absence or presence of dental trauma, their habits during the daytime and nighttime, causes of the trauma and affected dental piece. The research paper was done in Microsoft Excel 2010. It contains the results of the formula for the sample size, average, standard deviation and frequency, values P and CHI2. Results: With a total universe of 83 patients observed, 21 of them, 25% of the total number of patients observed, presented dental trauma. Moreover, 11 of those patients were male and 10 were female, all between the ages of 6- and 10 years old. From the sample mentioned, 19% of the patients with dental trauma stated that the fall of childhood is the most common cause of dental trauma in pediatric patients. Discussion: Gonzales García and associates, whom have a predilection in the masculine sex due to the fact that men have an inclination of being involved in more violent games than females from a very early age. Abreu Correa y Sarria MC sustain the evidence obtained in this research paper which is that the most recurring age of patients with dental trauma ranges from 5 to 11 years old. The fall of childhood was the most common cause of dental trauma. Conclusions:Among the observed patients, male patients prevail in ages between 6 and 11 years. In more than half of the surveyed patients who presented dental trauma, it was observed that the most affected teeth were the right and left upper incisors; the fall of childhood was the cause in most patients.
