Abstract

The Urinary tract infections (UTI) are an indicative of an existing colonization of pathogenic microorganisms at any of the levels of the genito-urinary system that exceeds the defensive capacity of the affected organism. Among the most affected populations we have the elderly, in men over 65 years, the appearance of prostatic adenoma produces a low obstructive uropathy; while in women, the hormonal changes characteristic of menopause also increases the likelihood of infection due to the change in the balance of the normal flora. To these problems we must add other age-specific diseases that cause the onset of urinary infection, such as diabetes or urinary and fecal incontinence. Urinary tract infections are a very common medical problem, having a great impact and prevalence in this age group due to their risk factors and associated pathologies. Among the most notorious factors for the incidence of UTI are intimate hygiene; assistance for daily activities; diaper use; use of bladder catheter and physical activity. According to the type of UTI, there is a higher prevalence in certain associated factors.
