Abstract

It is considered low birth weight (LBW) when it is less than 2500gr regardless of gestational age. It is a predictor of importance for the growth and poor development of the newborn. LBW is the main cause of increased morbidity and infant mortality. The objective of the study is to establish the relationship of maternal perinatal background with low birth weight neonates in the HDPNG-2 in the period January-2016 to January-2018. A total of 241 pregnant women were studied, and by means of data collection the perinatal background of the same was obtained. The majority of pregnant women were in the age range between 22 and 26 years, 47. The 7.88% of newborns had low birth weight, 47.11% of women had UTI in some period of their pregnancy. 53.05% of multiparous women had a short intergenic period (<24 months). It was found that those women with a perinatal history or short intergenic period have a higher risk of having a low birth weight.
