Influencia de la lactancia materna en el desarrollo de otitis media aguda en niños de igual o menores a 5 años de edad atendidos en el Hospital General del Norte de Guayaquil Los Ceibos durante el periodo de octubre del 2018 a octubre del 2019.

Abstract

Introduction: Breast milk is an essential product for the growth and development of the infant, and at the same time it provides protective factors against infections; being very common in children, acute otitis media. Objective: To determine the association between exclusive breastfeeding and acute otitis media in children under 5 years of age attended at the General Hospital of the North of Guayaquil Los Ceibos during the period from October 2018 to October 2019. Materials and methods: Case study and control. The population is made up of children who were treated at the Hospital General del Norte Los Ceibos. The cases were children of the same or less than five years old, with or without AOM and who had been fed with EBF. As controls, children equal to or less than 5 years old, with or without AOM and who have been fed with PBF. Results: 150 patients were studied, of whom 75 received EBF, while those who received PBF, were 75. Likewise, according to the age group, there were two neonates, 22, younger infants, 28 older infants, 98 preschoolers. In addition, according to gender, 46.67% (70 patients) were female, while 53.33% (80 patients) were male. 66 cases of patients with AOM (44%) were obtained, of which 9.33% (7 patients) correspond to those who received EBG, while 78.6% (59 patients) are those who were fed with PBF. On the other hand, AOM was more frequent in males (26.67%). And according to the age group, it was more frequent in the preschool patients (28.67%). Equally important, a strong association was found between breastfeeding type and AOM, Conclusions: The type of breastfeeding is associated with the presence of acute otitis media in children equal to or less than five years old.
