Desarrollo e implementación de nuevas funcionalidades en la plataforma Moodle de la Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil para mejorar la interacción entre profesores y alumnos en su proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje.

Abstract

This work covers the implementation of new functionalities to the Moodle platform of the Universidad Católica de Santiago de Guayaquil that improves the interaction between teacher and student in the process of teaching and learning. IIn light of the current situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, which requires the presence mode to teach their classes virtually, the need arises to improve the tools that allow interaction between students and teachers through the Internet, understanding interaction as any act of exchange of pedagogic content. For the collection of information, documentary research was used to support the study and define the characteristics of the functionalities to be implemented, surveys were also used to obtain a profile of users and their opinion about new features. As a proposal of the solution, plugins were considered that allow the writing of mathematical notation in lessons or tasks, complements of alternative tasks or workshops such as games based on questionnaires, features that also meet the criterion described in the theoretical framework on the interaction between teachers and students as the exchange of content that contributes to the teaching and learning process, proctoring solutions or monitoring and features that help in the audit of the teaching process. In conclusion and according to the research, the Moodle platform could be adapted to these needs, allowing the correct implementation of the functionalities in the test environment, demonstrating that these functionalities would help with the interaction between students and teachers, as long as the latter are aware of these functionalities.
