Prevalencia de Distemper canino en Canis lupus familiaris que asisten a consulta en la Clínica Veterinaria Zamora en el sur de la ciudad de Guayaquil.

Abstract

Canine distemper is the most widely distributed viral disease in the world caused by the canine distemper virus (CDV), it causes high mortality in puppies under one year, it can attack neurologically, gastrointestinally or respiratory, there is no specific antiviral treatment. The objective of the study was to determine the prevalence of canine distemper in dogs that attended the consultation at the Zamora Veterinary Clinic, located south of the city of Guayaquil, through the serological test of the Uranotest kit, in the months of November 2020 to January 2021. This being a descriptive, non-experimental field study, a total of 80 dogs were sampled for having symptoms associated with canine distemper, the procedure for sampling and subsequent evaluation of results was applied in each animal. The prevalence obtained was 1.25%, this due to the fact that only one positive case of the disease was found, being of mixed race, less than 6 months old and male, who was not previously vaccinated. The most frequently observed symptoms in the cases studied were digestive, dermal, respiratory and feverish.
