Abstract

INTRODUCTION: The oral manifestations that appear in histiocytosis will depend on the severity of the disease. OBJECTIVE: To identify the signs and symptoms to make an early diagnosis of histiocytosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The universe consisted of 56 patients with histiocytosis, of which sex, age, histiocytosis classification (Langerhans cell histiocytosis, Histiocytosis of mononuclear phagocytes other than Langerhans cells and malignant histiocytosis) and the extent of the disease (localized and disseminated). RESULTS: The statistical data of 56 patients were executed, of which 42.86% are female and 57.14% male. The study shows us that in localized histiocytosis 30% presented bone problems, 16.67 gingivoperiodontal alterations, 6.67% combined lesions and 3.33% alterations of the eruption, while in disseminated histiocytosis 26.67% manifested combined lesions, 16.67% gingivoperiodontal alterations and none exclusively and individually evidenced bone problems and eruption alterations. DISCUSSION: The oral signs (53.57%) that appeared more frequently in histiocytosis were periodontal problems such as gingival swelling, bleeding, dental plaque, pain, loss of teeth. 50% of the patients in the studies carried out by Mínguez I. Et al. Showed that the aforementioned oral signs diagnosed the disease. CONCLUSION: In the present study, it was concluded that Langerhans cell histiocytosis is the one that occurs most frequently. Being gingivoperiodontal complications, bone lesions, lesions of the eruption, the oral signs that are exhibited in the initial stage of the disease, being able to diagnose histiocytosis with said oral manifestations
