Abstract

In this degree work, a review was made of the influence that the 1998 earthquake had on the behavior of the buildings in Bahía de Caráquez in the 2016 earthquake. Information about damage to the buildings in Bahía de Caráquez was obtained during the earthquakes of August 4, 1998, and April 16, 2016. Through the investigation carried out, it was determined that the sample consisted of all the reinforced concrete buildings in Bahía de Caráquez that suffered some damage or adverse effect during one or two of the referred earthquakes. The compilation of the information took place through field exploration and what was exposed in newspapers, technical publications, degree thesis and degree work. The type and degree of damage experienced in both earthquakes by the buildings that suffered both the 1998 and 2016 events were determined. This group was separated into two sub-groups, according to whether or not they were subjected to post-structural reinforcement. earthquake. The type and degree of damage experienced during the 2016 earthquake by those buildings built after the 1998 event was determined. Subsequently, it was determined, using statistical techniques, if the differences in the degree of damage of the two groups of buildings are significant or not.
