Impacto de las medidas contra la pandemia Covid-19 en el desempeño financiero de las MIPYMES del sector de alojamiento y servicios de comida de la ciudad de Guayaquil en el periodo 2019-2020.

Abstract

MSMEs represent an important source of economic development and jobs in Ecuador. The accommodation and food services sector has interesting potential due to the growing habits and preferences related to leisure activities in the population; however, the COVID- 19 pandemic represented a barrier to the consumption of these services. The objective of the study was to analyze the effect of the measures against the COVID-19 pandemic on the financial performance of MSMEs in the accommodation and food services sector in Guayaquil. For this, data was taken between 2019 and 2020 from a total of 212 MSMEs in the accommodation and food sector in Guayaquil. Through non-parametric techniques such as the Wilcoxon hypothesis test and the estimation of econometric models with robust standard errors (CHA), it was observed that the median profitability of the companies studied was significantly reduced in 2020, the medians companies will have sufficient liquidity to face the pandemic restrictions, and that in no case was the capital structure modified between these years. The findings reveal that micro and small businesses require financial support and improved financial management since their main weakness is lack of liquidity.
