Abstract

One of the most remarkable technology episodes of the last few years has been the gradual interest in non-fungible tokens, considered to be the latest craze in the world of distributed registries and cryptocurrencies. This innovative technology has made a strong entry into the world of art and technology. These assets are blockchain enabled which represent proof of ownership of digital objects. Many of the creative industry entrepreneurs have pioneered the use of NFT and have sought to generate new revenue streams and modes of stakeholder engagement. Despite the rapid growth in popularity, concerns have been raised about the legal ownership of NFT assets and the prevalence of speculation and fraud associated with NFT trading. In this paper, we explore the value of the NFT system to the creative industry. First, we will examine the what is it and how it works; second, we will analyze the obstacles presented by the Nfts system and the novel digital possibilities of this technology as a support for the development of intellectual property over the digital world; and finally, a perspective will be taken to consider Nfts as an opportunity for the expansion of collective management.
