Abstract

he purpose of this thesis is to analyze Ecuador's membership as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, with special focus on the limitations that this position entails. For this purpose, the origins of the United Nations Organization, the establishment of the Charter of the United Nations, which is the constituent instrument of the Security Council, and the organization and structure of the United Nations, will be addressed. Subsequently, the election of the non-permanent members of the Security Council, the voting system for decision making within the Council, the controversial right to veto and the effects it has had on the making of transcendental decisions for the international community will be analyzed.
