Evaluar el conocimiento que tienen los estudiantes de la UCSG sobre la mucositis oral en el semestre A 2022.

Abstract

Introduction: Oral mucositis is a seriously debilitating condition. It can occur due to radiation therapy to the head and neck, chemotherapeutic agents, high-dose chemotherapy agents, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Objective: Evaluate the knowledge that UCSG students have about oral mucositis in Semester A-2022 Materials and methods: This study is descriptive and cross-sectional. The sample was 186 participants. Results: 124 (66.67%) females and 62 (33.33%) males were surveyed. Regarding the knowledge of the 186 students, only 27 obtained a grade greater than 7. Regarding the cycle and the relationship to knowledge, we found that: 2 (7.41%) students were from V cycle, 14 (51.85%) from VI cycle, 3 (11.11%) from VII, 2 (7.41%) from VIII cycle and 6 (22.22%) from IX. Conclusions: It is necessary to improve the training processes of the students, increasing the practices, carrying out rotations in oncology hospitals, thus demonstrating that it is necessary to improve their training process, considering that it is important to be able to make a good diagnosis in order to treat patients suffering from this disease.
