Alteraciones óseo-musculares en portadores de prótesis parciales removibles, Clínica UCSG, semestre A-2022.

Abstract

Introduction: A removable partial denture serves as a therapeutic device to restore partial edentulous ridges, either where a fixed partial denture is not indicated or cannot be provided by the patient. Even though it is a good way to replace missing teeth, poor care or poor planning can make it a threat to the remaining pieces for various reasons. The main objectives being the preservation of the remaining teeth and maximizing the function of the masticatory system, the negative effects can be reduced if adequate oral hygiene measures are carried out; this as only minor effects have been noted in patients seen regularly. Objective: To determine the muscle and bone changes in removable partial denture carriers treated at the Faculty of Dentistry of the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil in the A-2022 semester. Design: An observational-cross-sectional analytical descriptive study was conducted in patients with removable partial dentures treated at the UCSG dental clinic. Results: The 34 patients surveyed, the most frequent bone alteration is tooth loss despite the use of the prosthesis with 82.35%; Relating it to age, the alteration was reflected in the group of 55 to 70 years. On the other hand, according to the muscular alterations present, it was obtained that facial hypotonia showed a percentage of 44.12%, where the female population reached 32.35%; when relating it to age, the highest percentage with this alteration was reflected in the population between 55 and 70 years of age. Conclusion: Pople who have this type of prosthesis present different bone and muscle alterations, which over time will have a greater degree of severity if they do not attend the specialist to make a new prosthesis according to each patient in order to achieve the proper functioning of the stomatognathic system.
