Abstract

Introduction: The need to provide better prosthetic treatments to totally edentulous patients, have allowed the development of new techniques which require a high level of theoretical - clinical knowledge to be able to perform them successfully, with the technique of peripheral sealing it is sought to obtain total prostheses with Greater retention and stability. Objective: To evaluate the level of knowledge in general dentists enrolled in the College of Dentists of Guayas (not federated), about peripheral sealing for total prostheses. Materials and methods: An online survey was conducted to 156 general dentists who practice in Guayas on the level of knowledge about peripheral sealing for total prostheses, this survey was conducted through the Google form platform.Analysis and discussion of results: Regarding the types of edentulism treated with the peripheral sealing technique, 37.9% of respondents answered YES, they had knowledge, 35.9% answered NO, and 26.2% chose that they had very little knowledge on the subject. Conclusion: General dentists in Guayas do not have a good level of knowledge on some topics, such as identifying the types of edentulism treated with peripheral sealing, how to classify them and the materials that give better results for peripheral sealing.
