Abstract

In the last half century, there has been a significant decrease in infant mortality related to infectious diseases, nutritional problems or other types of pathology, positioning childhood accidents among the first places of causes of infant morbidity and mortality. According to the Argentine Society of Pediatrics (SAP) it is estimated that a large percentage of children under 18 months have used a walker at some time, and most users have suffered an accident as a result of its use. The study population includes male and female patients who attended the Hospital General del Norte IESS Ceibos after suffering injuries due to the use of a walker in children under 24 months of age in the period from December 2021 to June 2022. After the application of inclusion and exclusion criteria, of a total of 86 surveys carried out on parents or caregivers, we observed that in 64 of these (74.5%), the infants used walkers and 17 of these suffered injuries, that is, 26.5% of the The total number of cases surveyed represent injuries secondary to the use of a walker, whose relationship is similar to the global percentage in which injuries linked to these devices occur.
