Resumen : This research focuses on analyzing the process of vocabulary acquisition in 9thgrade students at Unidad Educativa Fiscal José Vicente Trujillo in the first half of the scholastic year 2022-2023. For this purpose, a theoretical framework was constructed based on topics related to the acquisition of vocabulary, as well as strategies that have been applied by different authors to strengthen this learning process in students. The methodology used for this work was action research, which was developed from a mixed approach. The data collection instruments used in the study were a vocabulary test applied to the students, an interview directed to the teacher of the subject, and a class observation checklist. As results were obtained after the application of the instruments, it was evidenced that the students do not understand how to use vocabulary in context; they use dictionaries to translate sentences; and they lack spelling and pronunciation skills. Finally, it is important to mention that it is necessary to implement strategies to improve students’ vocabulary acquisition and a proposal has been designed with suggestions for this purpose.
