Abstract

Introduction: Studies have reported that microsurgical instruments lead to better vascularity and possibility of primary wound closure, better esthetics, and less postoperative discomfort. Objective: Determine the use microsurgery instruments in periodontal procedures, survey of training course students. Materials and methods: The focus of the study is qualitative-quantitative. Thanks to these criteria, it was possible to select the sample that was 20 students in total, with a margin of error of 5% and a confidence level of 95%. Results: 65% indicated that they fully agree that the ergonomics provided by surgical instruments, 70% consider that microsurgery instruments help the performance of surgical procedures, on the other hand, 70% believe that the use of magnification benefits the work posture. 50% consider that the use of microsutures improves the operative post-surgical quality. 40% fully agree that there is an advantage between the round scalpel handle vs. the flat one. Regarding the use of magnification, 75% answered that they use loupes and 25% that they use a microscope. Conclusion: Microsurgery brings new insights and technology to periodontics that can dramatically optimize treatment outcomes for many forms of periodontal plastic and aesthetic treatment. It is essential to understand that students are aware of these benefits and despite the fact that they presented certain difficulties when adapting to the use of this type of instrument, they understood its importance.
