Abstract

The project "Centro Comercial y Parqueo en Monte Sinaí" is based on a structure that functions as a shopping center aimed at contributing to the commercial needs of the low-income inhabitants of the Monte Sinai sector. This structure sits on the front and highest part of the land of the "City for Children" project, with its steep slope as the biggest problem, thus presenting the main architectural challenge. The building seeks to create a harmonious relationship with the different levels of the land, dividing for this purpose into three different levels that are connected by means of a large central space inside the structure. One of the purposes of the project is to take advantage of the potential of the site where it is located, using for this purpose, architectural strategies and the use of materiality typical of the coastal region. As a strategy, we sought to combine a rigid structure made up of rectangular modules that will house the architectural program, with a lightweight Bamboo structure Juxtaposed to the modules, whose purpose is to support a cover that protects the open spaces both inside the project and on the outside. Exterior. With the use of bamboo, a traditional material of coastal architecture, an attempt is made to mitigate the sensation of rigidity left by the structures of shopping centers, allowing, in turn, an identification of the building with the typical and traditional characteristics of the inhabitants of the city and from Mount Sinai.
