Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic affected international trade, because, as it is a new virus, it was not known with certainty how it would act and what protocols to establish. In this way, the different countries established standards and biosafety measures regarding the indications given by the World Health Organization (WHO). Therefore, the objective of this research is to analyze the innovation criteria of the shrimp sector in the face of the sanitary control measures of COVID-19 in exports from Ecuador to China during the period 2020-2021. During the investigation, information was sought from both primary and secondary sources. The interviews are undoubtedly of great help to understand from the point of view during the shrimp processing and exporting plants, the impact that the pandemic had. In addition, the aquaculture magazines, the reports, the articles, the official websites of the different public and private entities, were of great help, because they contained valuable information about Ecuadorian shrimp exports to international markets. providing detailed information on the strategies and implementations of the shrimp sector to face this health setback. Based on what has already been investigated, we managed to identify some of the decisions made by Ecuadorian shrimp exporters during the pandemic crisis, such as: innovations in the elimination processes, the implementation of technology, market, and product diversification.
