Necesidad del trabajador social en pacientes con enfermedades catastróficas atendidos en centros de salud de la ciudad de Santo Domingo, 2022-2023.

Abstract

The objective of this degree work is to discover the perceptions that health actors have about Social Work in the care of patients with catastrophic diseases, in health centers in the city of Santo Domingo, in order to promote the importance of professional practice in this intervention field. For which a qualitative approach methodological framework was designed, a descriptive level and a phenomenological type, working with a shared sample between patients, relatives, a social worker and other professionals of the multidisciplinary team of these health establishments. From the results obtained, it was possible to determine that currently the social professional is not always included or perceived in the treatment and care of patients with catastrophic diseases, so their quality of life and comprehensive care is limited. It can be concluded that the social worker in this social group of people would help to manage crises, emotions, to improve their living conditions, to better bond with families, and to work hand in hand with a team of professionals duly specialized in each field. Being able to also recommend that the city's health centers should improve the services they provide and include social workers in the intervention of patients in these situations.
