Cumplimiento de las actividades del cuidador primario en la atención a pacientes oncológicos en etapa terminal del hospital de SOLCA-Guayaquil.

Abstract

The palliative phase of cancer patients requires family support or people trained to meet the needs. A study on compliance with activities of the primary caregiver is carried out. Objective: To determine the fulfillment of the activities of the primary caregiver in the care of cancer patients in the terminal stage. Methodological Design: it is a descriptive study, with a quantitative, prospective and cross-sectional approach, the survey and indirect observation were used to collect the data, it was carried out in 100 primary caregivers and cancer patients in the palliative phase. Results.- As for the primary caregivers 78 % were women, 35% were children, 86% had secondary academic education, 99% had no support staff. Regarding the knowledge of the caregiver, 100% do not know the patient's concerns, however, they know about hygiene, adequate nutrition, medical controls and access to health services. 84% of the caregivers comply with the hygiene and comfort of the patient, 63% provide food supplements, 100% administer analgesics, 76% perform passive exercises, 36% provide mobile devices for leisure and distraction. According to the factors that interrupt patient care, 87% presented difficulties with mobilization, 100% believe that there are insufficiencies in terms of information on the pathology and guidance for the caregiver. As soon as 35% of the patients presented breast and cervical cancer, 100% received chemotherapy, 96% presented motor disability. Conclusions.- There is little compliance with care activities due to the lack of information and mobility conditions.
