Abstract

For a new mother, maternity represents an experience full of uncertainties and fears that, however, are perceived as a natural part of it and therefore does not represent a problem; The situation changes when a disease diagnosis is attributed to that neonate, coming to hinder the maternal desire and implying a duel of the expectations created for the future. The theme is current today and is a problem as it affects not only the mother, but also the well-being of the newborn. The main objective of this work was to analyze the incidence of medical diagnosis associated with the disease of a newborn in the subjective position of new mothers, through the descriptive method, to establish coordinates that guide the therapeutic approach. Bibliographic review, interviews and presentations of clinical vignettes were used, the same ones that were developed based on a psychoanalytic theoretical framework. In this way, correlations were obtained between the exposed cases, accounting for the differentiation of an initial subjective position and a second one modified as a result of the news of a medical diagnosis, in addition to exposing the role of the psychologist as an enabler of a subjective rectification.
