Percepción del funcionamiento familiar en adultos mayores en el cerro San Eduardo, año 2023.

Abstract

The family plays a crucial role in the support and care of older adults and the way they are treated by their loved ones can have a significant influence on their physical and mental health. Objective: To determine the perception of family functioning in older adults in Cerro San Eduardo, year 2023. Methodology: descriptive, with quantitative approach and prospective, crosssectional design. Population: 100 older adults. Technique: Survey. Instrument: Family APGAR test. Results: According to the sociodemographic characteristics, 51% were women and 49% men; with respect to age, 53% were aged 65 to 70 years, followed by 35% aged 71 to 85 years and 12% over 86 years. Regarding marital status, 42% are married, 25% are widowed, 14% are single, 10% are divorced and 9% are in union. In terms of educational level, 72% have a primary school education. 100% reside in rural areas. Regarding the economic level, 97% have an income less than the basic salary which corresponds to a value of less than $475 dollars, while 3% have an income between $475 and $700 dollars. For the level of family functionality 80% have normal family functionality followed by severe dysfunction 9% mild dysfunction 8% and moderate dysfunction 3%. Conclusion: The perception of the older adult's family is a crucial aspect that can significantly influence the emotional well-being of this population.
