Prevalencia de la Enfermedad de Graves en pacientes mujeres de 40 – 50 años en el Hospital General Guasmo Sur de la ciudad de Guayaquil, Ecuador, durante el periodo 2020 – 2021.

Abstract

INTRODUCTION: Graves' disease is the most common cause of autoimmune hyperthyroidism, in which the thyroid is activated through antibodies that stimulate the cells that produce thyroid hormones. It has a higher prevalence in women, and its peak incidence occurs between 40-60 years of age. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the prevalence of Graves' disease in female patients aged 40-50 at the Guasmo Sur General Hospital in the city Guayaquil, Ecuador, during the period 2020 - 2021. METHODOLOGY: This research has a mixed approach, non-experimental design, with a longitudinal-retrospective cut. RESULTS: The prevalence of Graves' disease in female patients between 40-50 years of age treated at the Guasmo Sur General Hospital was 17.8%, which was largely distributed in the year 2021. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSIONS: Demographic characteristics, reveal that about half of the patients diagnosed with Graves' disease are between 45 and 50 years of age and a large part of them come from the province of Guayas.
