Abstract

The project addresses the integration of housing of social interest in a heritage building located on Panama Street in the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. The proposal is based on two types of interventions: conversion and conservation, with the aim of achieving a harmonious coexistence between the preservation of the historic value of the building and the satisfaction of the housing needs of the low-income population. he conversion phase involves the adaptation of the patrimonial building to house residential units of social interest. The aim is to maximise the available space while maintaining the architectural and cultural integrity of the building. This involves the recon-creation of existing spaces, the incorporation of modern technologies to improve energy efficiency and accessibility, and the creation of common areas that encourage community coexistence. The conservation phase focuses on the preservation and restoration of architectural and cultural elements of the building. A detailed study of the original structure, facade and other historical elements is carried out to ensure its authenticity. In addition, sustainable maintenance strategies are implemented to ensure the long-term durability of the building. It is hoped that this integrated and investigative approach will generate benefits both for the preservation of heritage and for the improvement of the living conditions of the low-income population on Panama Street in Guayaquil.
