Abstract

This research project is carried out from a psychoanalytic theoretical perspective, aiming to analyze what happens at a subjective level with the transference love of the analysand towards the death of their analyst. For this task, an in-depth bibliographic investigation was conducted on the main theoretical contributions of Sigmund Freud, Jacques Lacan, and other contemporary psychoanalysts on love, psychoanalytic transference, subjectivity, mourning, and the subjective phenomena it entails. Additionally, the Interview technique was employed, gathering qualitative information through semi-structured interviews with 8 analysands who were in the process of analysis at the time their psychoanalysts passed away between 2020 and 2023. Therefore, the current research utilized a Qualitative Methodological Approach of an analytical-synthetic type. As conclusions, it was determined that Transference in psychoanalysis is the phenomenon whereby the analysand invests the analyst with affective motions of love and hate, corresponding to reminiscences of past affections primarily derived from parental figures or significant subjects from childhood. In the face of the analyst's death, analysands respond with a mourning process characterized by various subjective phenomena as a defense against the reality of death. The most common subjective phenomena include feelings of sadness, emptiness, crying, loss of interest in the external world, anxiety, nostalgia, denial of death, feelings of loneliness, guilt for not being able to spend more time with their analyst, and reluctance to choose a new analyst.
