Abstract

This thesis studies the historical and architectural evolution of the neighborhood Los Ceibos, in Guayaquil, between 1960 and 1980. It is mainly analyzed its consolidation as one of the first planned urbanizations outside the traditional city center, describing in a general way its urban layout to contextualize the architectural proposals that emerged during this period. The research was based on historical archives, interviews and analysis of plans, photographs and graphic documents. This made it possible to identify the characteristics of the original dwellings, the architectural typologies, the materials used and the influence of the modern movement on their design. Although the sector has changed over time, it still retains elements representative of its initial stage. The study seeks to contribute to the documentation of its architectural and historical value and highlight the importance of recognizing Los Ceibos as part of the process of residential expansion in Guayaquil during the second half of the twentieth century.
