Abstract

The following document presents a step-by-step overview of the development and production of the fiction short film “El peso del silencio”. In this short film we follow a young man who is going through a period of emotional and mental exhaustion, completely shut away in his bedroom, trying to hold on to a routine that feels heavier every day videogames, watching movies, and memories that return over and over again. Throughout the story, the everyday space of the room becomes a reflection of his inner state, reinforced by symbolic images such as water turning dark and the sensation of floating or sinking. The project focuses on the creation of a psychological drama short film with a strong introspective component. The camera stays close to the character, and the image gradually becomes darker, with cooler and less saturated colors. The lighting relies on diegetic sources within the scene, such as the lamp, the television, and the phone, to reinforce the idea that his world is almost entirely limited to what happens inside that room. The production was carried out mainly over two shooting days, organizing the scenes by location and type of light in order to make better use of time and equipment. The protagonist’s bedroom is the primary location, along with the bathroom and a few additional spaces in the same setting. The story focuses on what the character feels internally, using elements such as water turning black and sound to represent his emotional state without needing to state it directly in the dialogue.
