Abstract

The present work analyzes the loss of architectural and symbolic value of the Casa Calde - rón, a representative work of modern architecture in Guayaquil. Originally conceived as a dwelling house, the building was later adapted to house the Language Center of the Catholic University of Santiago de Guayaquil (UCSG), a process that involved changes that altered and eliminated rivers from its original architectural elements. This situation highlights the limited and even scarce valuation of modern heritage, a problem that occurs not only in Ecuador, but also in various Latin American cities, where buildings from this period have been transformed or - milled without considering their historical and cultural importance. In the face of this problem, the research proposes a critical intervention through an architectural rehabilitation process that allows for the recovery, conservation and redevelopment of the original elements of the facade of the Casa Calderón, while adapting its spaces to the new requirements of the UCSG TEC project. The proposal aims to restore the memory of the building and create an educational space that harmonically dialogues between the past and the present. The work is carried out with a quantitative and interpretive approach, including a bi - biographic review, analysis of similar rehabilitation cases and interviews with people linked to the building, in order to gather historical information and project requirements. Also, the architectural and urban context and the formal configuration of the building are analyzed to understand its current functioning and guide its intervention. The project also considers Sustainable Development guidelines and objectives to ensure an innovative, sustainable and relevant approach.
