Abstract

The purpose of this research was to analyze how forms of community self-organization manifest in the Jigual community, El Laurel parish, in Daule. This aimed to foster community development in this area and strengthen the social skills of its residents. The study was based on Luhmann and Prigogine's theory of social self-organization, and employed a qualitative, inductive, descriptive, and cross-sectional methodological design. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with a sample of five leaders who have lived in the community. The findings revealed that the community primarily relies on formal agricultural organizations, which serve as a tool for integrating both women and men to address problems and request government resources when necessary. Despite facing challenges, they strive to maintain contact, although personal and economic limitations, along with the limited presence of local government, hinder the community's development and the improvement of living conditions.
