Conocimiento actitudes y prácticas frente a las enfermedades de transmisión sexual en el Colegio Almirante Lord Thomás en el año 2026.

Abstract

Sexually transmitted infections represent a public health problem that significantly affects the adolescent population, and understanding their knowledge, attitudes, and practices is fundamental for designing effective educational strategies. Objective: To determine the knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding sexually transmitted infections among students of the Almirante Lord Thomas School in 2026. Methodology: A descriptive, quantitative, non-experimental, prospective, and cross-sectional study was conducted. The instrument used was a KAP questionnaire. Population and sample: The sample consisted of 64 students. Results: Sociodemographic characteristics showed that 53% were female and 47% male; 69% were 16- 17 years old; 83% had received information about although specific knowledge was limited to HIV (45%). Regarding attitudes, 73% recognized the risk of infection, and 77% were willing to be screened. Regarding practices, 66% reported using protection, and 95% expressed an intention to use a condom upon diagnosis. Conclusion: Students possess basic knowledge focused on VIH, favorable attitudes towards prevention and willingness to be diagnosed, but myths about transmission persist and difficulties in translating preventive intention into sustained practices, which shows the need to strengthen comprehensive educational interventions that develop skills for assertive decision-making in sexual health.
