This research develops the design of an electric pumping system on a shrimp farm located in Sabana Grande – Vía a la Costa, with the aim of improving the energy efficiency of the aquaculture production system. The study is based on a technical and energy analysis of the existing mechanical pumping system, which operates using high-powered diesel engines, generating high operating costs and significant carbon dioxide emissions. After a detailed review of the data and all the hydraulic and electrical calculations, we designed an alternative system powered by 250 kW three-phase motors with variable frequency drives. This setup reliably meets the requirement of turning over 75% of the water volume every day. We also ran the numbers on costs and savings, estimating annual savings of around $313,200—which means the investment would pay for itself in less than two years under a moderate investment scenario. Likewise, the environmental analysis showed the elimination of approximately 2,400 tons of CO₂ per year generated by the diesel system. The results demonstrate that technological migration is technically feasible, economically profitable, and environmentally sustainable, contributing to the modernization of the aquaculture production system and the reduction of its energy footprint.en_US
