Abstract: Introduction: Gastroesophageal reflux disease is the clinical disorder caused by the alteration of mechanisms and anti-reflux anatomical barriers during the digestion process. This pathology can cause complications at the esophageal and extraesophageal level as in oral cavity and the main ones are: dental erosion, xerostomia, dental sensitivity, gingival recession, halitosis, stomatodynia, lingual alteration and candidiasis. Objective: To determine the oral clinical findings present in patients diagnosed with GERD and to indicate the need for dental practitioners to acquire greater knowledge about these manifestations in the oral cavity, in order to treat them properly and in a timely manner, by means of specialist medical consultation. Materials and methods: A descriptive, observational, cross-sectional, comparative and analytical study was carried out in which 90 clinical records of patients treated at the Department of Gastroenterology of the SOLCA hospital were reviewed during the period of May-August 2017. 37 of 90 patients met the inclusion criteria. Results: Of the 37 patients in the study, 65% were women and 35% were men. The main oral clinical findings were gingival recession and dental sensitivity with 95%, dental erosion corresponding to 92%, xerostomia to 95%, halitosis 89%, stomatodynia and lingual alteration with 49%. Finally, lower frequency candidiasis with 0.37%. Conclusion: GERD is a potentially serious digestive condition that dentists must take into account, know the associated risk factors, their signs and symptoms. Interconsultation between the doctor and dentist, plus the collaboration of the patient for the definitive treatment of GERD is strongly recommended.
