Teatro / Biblioteca Municipal en Bahía de Caráquez.

Abstract

After the earthquake of august 16 of 2016, which caused serious damage along the entire Ecuadorian coast line, the Autonomous Decentralized Municipal Government of Canton Sucre, proposed to work alongside, between public and private institutions in order to improve the urban development of the canton. One space consider high priority for the GAD of Canton Sucre is the Municipal Theater/Library – Bahia de Caráquez. Following an agreement between both institutions, finally reached a consensus to elaborate the project by students under the modality of UTE. The project proposed by the Municipal GAD of Bahia and the council of directors of the Faculty of Architecture, consist on the design of the new Theater/Library of the city, which must have a theater with capacity for 500 people, a library, 2 workshops, management room, restaurant/cafeteria, shopping store, loading and unloading area for service vehicles and large outdoors plazas for artistic, social and cultural activities happening in the canton. The land is located in the Old Town of Bahia, a very busy area for being the center of business and trading before the earthquake. Which, it was affected post-earthquake, Bahia was eventually abandoned because people and business migrated towards Leonidas Plaza parish fearing for another earthquake and seeking better opportunities. This project is looking to reactivate Bahia, its people and its economy. Create a space where there is an exchange of ideas, interaction and participation of the entire population in different activities or events to promote culture.
