Abstract

The present work aims to give the city of Bahía de Caráquez a cultural project for the revitalization of its historic center. As a consequence of the April 16th, 2016 earthquake, several buildings were affected, including the old theatre, creating an opportunity for the design of a space with learning, cultural, and recreational activities. Throughout the research and analysis of the site, some elements of symbolic value were established within the patrimonial architecture of its buildings, creating a connection between the project and its environment. The transition of spaces is a key factor to achieve social cohesion among the inhabitants of the sector with flexible spaces that allows greater concentration of people for their integration. The exterior – interior relations are given through the public square, halls and terrace taking advantage of the visuals towards the existing river. The project also has a communication core as an articulating axis that allows a continuous path within the project.
