Abstract

The present work "The identity of Esteban" had as objective was to describe, analyze, interpret and argue, in a methodical way and using the psychoanalytic theoretical framework, the mechanisms and phenomena that sustain a subjective structure, with the purpose of establishing a diagnostic hypothesis, from the material of a clinical case. This is how we proceeded to unfold the characteristic features, phrases, dreams, symptomatic responses and stories of a patient, where from the psychoanalytic theory a structure of male hysterical neurosis can be sustained. The subject of which a structural diagnosis was made is a young man of 28 years who, according to what is described in the case, is presented as "the eternal university student", lives with his mother and has been in analysis at different stages of his life. In his analytical experience, he manifests himself as stuck in a "sexual limbo", an event that breaks his life and leads him to abstain from certain ways in which he found satisfaction. For the development of this work, the clinical method or case study method was used, which allowed us to analyze Esteban's subjective position and his particular way of doing with his discomfort.
