Abstract

Hospital malnutrition in pediatric population rages between 24 and 50% worldwide and is identified e less than 4% at the time of admission. The present work aims to evaluate the nutritional profile of the patients aged 2 to 10 years old at the time of admission to Dr. Roberto Gilbert Elizalde Children’s Hospital during the third week of August 2019. The research had a descriptive coss-sectional retrospective design that included the clinical information of 36 patients obtained from the database and a quantitative analysis of each of the variables determining nutritional status was performed. He results showed that the majority of the patients presented no malnutrition, although most of the admission pathologies affected nutritional status, and 58,3% of patients presented low hematocrit levels, unlike 8,3 of the patients who had low hemoglobin levels. The blood count can alert nutritional deficiencies. In conclusion, the nutritional status of the patient is affected by the diagnosis of admission and can be determined at the time of admission by means of Gómez and Waterlow malnutrition indicators and hemoglobin and hematocrit levels.
