Desempeño de edificios especiales durante sismos en Ecuador - caso de estudio escuelas y centros de educación en la provincia de Manabí.

Abstract

The objective of this degree work is to determine the performance of special buildings during earthquakes in Ecuador, focusing on schools and educational centers in the province of Manabí, due to damage and loss of service. Even though the characteristics of such earthquakes at the sites of location of these buildings corresponded to frequent or occasional earthquakes which according to the Ecuadorian Regulations of the Construction must have prevention of damage and collapse. In the case of the earthquake of 16 April 2016, there were several cases of buildings that collapsed in most of its structure after the event and on the contrary, there were buildings of this type that continued to provide services, even after rare and very rare earthquakes. To this end, it was decided to collect existing information from local newspapers and reports prepared by professionals on school buildings and educational centers; that they have suffered damage during earthquakes in Ecuador. With the aim of identifying the type of soil existing in each of the buildings selected for the case study, so that with the Ecuadorian Standard of Construction NEC-SE-DS and the reports of the accelerograms of the province of Manabí, the spectra of the acelerograms and the response spectra of the movements of the soil during the earthquake will be obtained for the locations of the buildings under study.
