Abstract

The present case deals with a hysterical neurosis whose picture is supported under Freudian and Lacanian psychoanalytic theory. We can see a woman who comes to analysis after imagining herself in an object position before those around her, a position she had certainly maintained under her own will. Within the analysis, Miriam tells that since her childhood her life has been related to the sudden death of loved ones particularly, of the masculine gender, losses for which she assumes responsibility as a way of making sense of them. By appropriating misfortune she manages to maintain the title that was imposed on her: Guardian of pain and sadness, which is coupled as an answer to the ghostly question, who am I? In the case, it is possible to point out particular elements of hysteria both in behavior and in the way Miriam describes and justifies her current situation. At the same time, her continued willingness to serve the Other allows us to visualize a psychic dynamic of the order of unconscious enjoyment and masochistic ghost.
