Abstract

The following work corresponds to a detailed analysis of a clinical case taking psychoanalytic theory as a reference. This analysis focuses on Berta, a 40-year-old woman, married with children. She attends analysis due to the difficulties encountered in managing of her children, however, throughout the sessions she may give an account of the discomfort that torments her. She is uncomfortable with the identification that others attribute to her with her mother, a socially aggressive woman. The symptom that she presents are these states of perplexity in different situations in which she cannot respond in any way. In these situations, Berta decides to put herself in the position of an object in order to enjoy not being able to desire, she places herself as the object of the Other’s desire and in this way she can remain unsatisfied. The enjoyment of deprivation plays an important role since it provides a guide to understand the behavior of the patient. The analysis of the case allows us to conclude that it is a hysterical structure present in the subjective position of the patient, through certain connotations such as: mode of response to desire, modality of jouissance and interpretation of the symptoms.
